Check microphone permissions
Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and make sure the app you're trying to use has microphone access. This is the most overlooked cause of mic issues.

Clean the microphone opening
Find the microphone pinhole (usually on the bottom edge or near the camera). Gently brush away any debris. Use a short burst of compressed air from a distance. Cases sometimes cover the mic hole.

Disconnect Bluetooth devices
Bluetooth headsets and speakers can hijack the microphone input. Disconnect all Bluetooth audio devices and try again.

Test with a voice recording app
Open the built-in voice recorder and record a short clip. Play it back. If you can hear yourself, the mic hardware is fine and the issue is app-specific. Try the mic in a phone call too.

Restart and reset
Restart the device. If the mic still doesn't work in any app, reset all settings. If it still fails, the microphone hardware may need replacement.
